About the Triangle Expressway

The Triangle Expressway Trot 2 will take place on a section of the Triangle Expressway near Green Level Church Road in Cary. The Triangle Expressway is a new toll road under construction from the Research Triangle Park at N.C. 540 to Holly Springs. Approximately 18.8 miles in length, the project is expected to save customers up to 20 minutes per full trip. Phase I of the Triangle Expressway opened to traffic on Dec. 8, 2011 and the first part of Phase II, from N.C. 55 to U.S. 64, is scheduled to open in August. The remaining section of Phase II will open in December.

There will be no toll booths and no stopping to pay tolls on the new road. Customers may purchase an NC Quick Pass, an electronic sticker transponder for $5.00, which deducts the toll from a prepaid account, saving them up to 35% on tolls. For those without an NC Quick Pass, overhead high-speed cameras will capture license plate information and bill drivers through a Bill by Mail process.
